Dark tourism involves traveling to sites that are associated with death, suffering, and tragedy. This involves locations of crimes, battle fields, disaster zones and more. People are often driven by curiosity, education and historical interest. In the United States the dark tourism market accounted for a revenue share of 78.22% in 2023. Travelers have accounted for a revenue share of 41.8% in 2023. The projected market size in 2030 is estimated at 38.64 billion. Although this travel segment is rather niche is is a consistently growing industry that is becoming more popular though social media. Films, TV shows, and documentaries continue to engage people into dark stories of the past.
